How old can my affidavit and newspaper ads be?+
Not more than one year. The Department of Publication does not accept documents older than one year, so file the gazette while your papers are fresh. Documents once submitted are not returned, so keep clear copies.
Will I get a printed gazette copy by post?+
No. Printed copies stopped from 1 October 2015. Once published, you download the PDF from egazette.gov.in under Weekly Gazette, Part IV — the Saturday date on it is the issue date, and the PDF often appears some days later. We have not seen any requirement to have it separately certified or stamped.
How can I change my name through the gazette in Telangana?+
Make a notarised affidavit, publish the notice in one newspaper, then file for a gazette notification. You can use the Telangana state gazette online, or the Central Gazette for pan-India validity.
Does Telangana have its own online gazette portal?+
Telangana has a gazette, published by the Commissioner of Printing, Stationery & Stores Purchase and printed at Government Central Press, Chanchalguda. What it does not have is a single citizen application portal. tggazette.cgg.gov.in is an archive where published gazettes are read; its login is provisioned by administrators for government departments, and the portal’s own user manual lists only Masters, Inputs and Reports modules, with no citizen registration. The application form is a Revenue department PDF on the MeeSeva services list. For pan-India work, most people use the Central Gazette.
Which gazette should I use, TG or Central?+
The TG eGazette is fine and cheap for records within the state. For a passport, PAN, bank, a central job or work abroad, the Central Gazette is the safer, pan-India choice.
What is the fee for name change in Telangana?+
We could not find a Telangana state gazette fee published in any government source, and we are not going to repeat one we cannot stand behind — the Rs 375 figure circulating online traces to a single filing agent’s blog. The Central Gazette fee is Rs 1,100 for adults and Rs 1,700 for minors, paid on BharatKosh; Rs 3,500 for an adult living abroad and Rs 5,100 for a minor living abroad. There is no per-alias charge: the Rs 250 that circulates online is the surcharge for adopting a name of another religion without changing your religion, which makes Rs 1,350. Stamp paper, notary and the newspaper notice are extra. One caveat on the central figures: the Department’s guidelines still date every rate "w.e.f. 01/04/2016 to 31/03/2017" and have never been reissued, so confirm on BharatKosh before paying.
How long does a name change take in Telangana?+
Neither route publishes a timeline we can source. Telangana appears to have no Right to Public Services Act — we found only a 2016 draft bill, never an Act — so there is no statutory clock and no appeal authority, and the Central route gives no guarantee either. Plan for weeks, not days.
Where is the Telangana gazette office?+
The gazette’s own imprint reads "Printed and Published by the Commissioner of Printing, Government of Telangana at Government Central Press, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad", and the office sits under the state Home Department. Beyond that we will be straight with you: three different addresses for this office circulate online, and we could not verify a PIN code or a phone number from a government source, so we are not printing one. Most "gazette helpline" numbers on blogs belong to private agents. Confirm before you travel.
Do I have to go to Delhi for the Central Gazette?+
No, but note how. The file can be sent by post or courier — in your own name. The Department’s guidelines say "Application either submitted personally or sent by Post/Courier only will be entertained. No other channel is permissible viz Agents, Advocates, etc.", so no consultant, ours included, can submit it for you. Everything around the filing can still be done from anywhere in Telangana.
Is the Telangana Gazette valid for a passport?+
For a passport, PAN, bank or work abroad, the Central Gazette is the safe choice, since it is accepted across India and by embassies. The TG eGazette is mainly for state-level records.
Which cities in Telangana do you serve?+

Do you help update Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID and birth certificate after the gazette?+
Yes for Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence, bank and KYC records, EPFO and insurance. Two honest limits. A birth certificate cannot be given a wholly new name at all — GHMC states that "complete change in name cannot be carried out as per the Births & Deaths Act, 1969", only spelling fixes, expanded initials, prefixes and suffixes — and that goes through MeeSeva and the Registrar, not the gazette. And a board certificate correction runs on the school Admission Register and Transfer Certificate; a gazette is not among the documents the SSC correction procedure lists. We will help you route those properly rather than sell you a gazette for a job it cannot do.
Can I change my name online in Telangana?+
Partly, and less than most pages claim. Telangana’s published gazettes are read online at tggazette.cgg.gov.in, but that is an archive, not an application portal — the change-of-name application form is a downloadable Revenue department PDF. For the Central Gazette, the fee payment and the final download are online while the affidavit, newspaper notice and file submission are not. You can still run all of it remotely without travelling.
Where do I download my gazette once it is published?+

Do I need a lawyer to change my name in Telangana?+
No. A notary attests the affidavit. Help from a consultant mainly saves you from format mistakes and rejections.
Can I change my name without a gazette notification?+
For small local needs an affidavit may pass, and for PAN, banks and employers a gazette is what most offices accept without argument. Be careful with the passport, though: the document list Indian missions publish asks for a deed poll or sworn affidavit plus the two newspaper cuttings, and does not name a gazette at all. A gazette is widely accepted there, but check Passport Seva’s own list rather than assuming you must buy one.
Which newspapers should I use in Telangana?+
For the gazette, one paper is enough and no language is prescribed — the guidelines say "one of the daily local leading newspapers". Eenadu, Sakshi and Namasthe Telangana have the widest Telugu reach; The Hindu, Deccan Chronicle and The Times of India are equally acceptable. The two-newspaper rule you have read about is the passport requirement, and its two papers are split by permanent address versus present address, not by language. If a passport re-issue is in your plans, check Passport Seva’s list before booking.
I want to change my surname after marriage. What extra do I need?+
Add your marriage certificate to the file. The affidavit states your maiden name and married name. The rest is the same.
Do I need signatures from two gazetted officers on my affidavit?+
For an ordinary name change, no. That extra step mainly applies to government employees, who follow their department's deed rules.
What if there is a spelling or initials mismatch in my documents?+
Mismatched spellings or initials across the affidavit, newspaper ad and ID proof are the biggest cause of rejection. Everything must match exactly.
How do I update Aadhaar and PAN after the gazette?+
Use the gazette PDF as proof and apply through the normal Aadhaar and PAN update routes, or let us handle it for you.
Can NRIs from Telangana change their name?+
Yes, with valid Indian ID. Someone living abroad needs the deed attested by the Indian Embassy or High Commission, and the Central Gazette route is recommended.
Will the department return my original documents?+
No. The Department of Publication does not return submitted documents. Keep your own extra copies.
Which Part of the Telangana Gazette will my notice appear in?+
Part II, Extraordinary. We checked twenty published Telangana Gazette issues carrying "CHANGE OF NAMES", from 2019 to August 2026, and every one was Part II Extraordinary. Pages telling you "Part IV" are quoting the Gazette of India’s numbering, not Telangana’s. Because Extraordinary issues are published as needed, there is no fixed weekly day to wait for; the portal’s Weekly Gazette stream is effectively dormant.
Is the Telangana gazette route only for government employees?+
No. This is worth stating because the answer really is different in some states — a few restrict the gazette name-change route to government servants and leave private citizens with only the Central route. Telangana does not. A single published issue we read carries a parent’s notice filed for a young child, a private businessman’s, and serving police constables’ with employee ID numbers, side by side. Government servants simply have additional departmental paperwork.
What is an “Annexure II certificate”, and will I get one?+
Be careful with this phrase. Annexure forms are input paperwork, filed before the gazette stage, typically addressed to an Executive Magistrate or the Revenue office. They are not what you receive at the end — what you receive is a gazette notification in Part II Extraordinary. We could not verify the Annexure numbering for Telangana from any government source, and the page that describes "Annexure II certificates" most confidently also tells Telangana readers to advertise in Tamil, which tells you how it was written. We removed this claim from our own page for the same reason.
How much stamp paper do I need for the affidavit in Telangana?+
No prescribed value for a name-change affidavit is published that we could verify, so we will not invent one. What the Registration and Stamps Department does say is that "in Telangana State, sale of Non-judicial stamp papers is restricted to the denomination maximum of Rs.100/-". So a Rs 500 non-judicial stamp sheet cannot be bought in Telangana at all, and any page telling you to buy one is describing something that does not exist here. Where higher duty is genuinely payable it is paid by challan or franking, not on a higher-value sheet. For comparison, GHMC accepts a Rs 10 stamp paper affidavit for birth-record corrections. Ask your notary what value they use on the day, and note the department’s warning that "a stamp paper once used for a purpose cannot be used for another purpose."
I have a pre-2014 Andhra Pradesh gazette. Does it still work in Telangana?+
We do not know, and nobody who tells you confidently does either. Telangana was formed on 2 June 2014 under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, and there is a large cohort holding an undivided-AP gazette notification. We could find no source in either direction on whether such a notification is still honoured as-is in Telangana, and the Reorganisation Act provisions people cite deal with the adaptation of laws, not with an individual’s gazette notice. If this is your situation, ask the specific office that needs to accept it — the bank, the RPO, the employer — before assuming either way, and keep your original newspaper page and affidavit with it.
Why does the gazette say it accepts no legal responsibility?+
Because that is exactly the arrangement. Each issue carries the line "No Legal Responsibility is accepted for the Publication of Private Advertisement" — the state treats your name-change notice as a private advertisement that it prints. It publishes what you declare; it does not verify your entitlement to the name and it adjudicates nothing. That is precisely why the affidavit, the newspaper notice and your identity documents must agree exactly, and why a mismatch discovered later is yours to fix, not the Press’s.
Will my name appear in Telugu script in the gazette?+
No. The masthead is bilingual — తెలంగాణ రాజ పత్రము / THE TELANGANA GAZETTE — but the change-of-name entries are printed in English only. The gazette authenticates the English form of your name. The practical risk for Telugu names is initials: K. Srinivas and Kandukuri Srinivas are one person to you and two to a bank. Fix one exact English form and use it identically across the affidavit, the notice, the application and your Aadhaar.
Is gazette name change a MeeSeva service with a guaranteed timeline?+
Not as far as we can establish. A "Change of Name Application Form" is listed on the state portal’s MeeSeva services page, but under Revenue, not under Printing, and we could not verify a service code, a MeeSeva fee or an SLA for it. More broadly, we found no Telangana Right to Public Services Act at all — only a 2016 advocacy draft bill — so there is no statutory delivery guarantee behind this service and no appellate authority for delay. Pages implying a guaranteed turnaround are implying something that does not exist.
