1. When a woman wants to name change after marriage, they need a woman’s passport or the passport of her husband and copies of the marriage certificates.
2.  When a Woman wants to name change after Divorce, they need a Certified divorce decree copy and a Sworn affidavit.
3. If a woman gets re-married, they need Proof of divorce from her husband or his death and marriage certificates.
4. If someone has other reasons or Circumstances and wants to change their name on the Passport, they need a Sworn affidavit and newspaper advertisements.

To change your Name in the Passport Offline, you need to follow the steps listed below.

Create an Affidavit

This is the first step to the change of Name in my passport, Create an Affidavit and mention important information such as your old name, new name and why you need to change a name.

Newspaper Advertisements

After Creating an Affidavit, Publish a newspaper Advertisement in both local and English newspapers.

Gazette Notification

Once placing a newspaper Advertisement, and applying for the Gazette notification, the Gazette of India publish a new name. You need to wait for it.

Visit Passport Seva Kendra

If you have completed the above three steps. Carry the important documents to Submit your application.

Passport Name Change Process Online

Step 1: Register on the Passport Seva Online Portal

Visit the official website of Passport Seva ( https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/) and register.

Step 2: Fill Out the Passport Application Form

After registration, click “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport.” and Fill out the details correctly.

Step 3: Upload Required Documents

After filling in all the information upload the necessary documents such as Proof of current address, Proof of identity and Proof of name change. You need to Schedule an Appointment at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

Step 4: Pay the fees and Visit the Passport Seva Kendra

Pay your name change fees online and on the scheduled date, visit Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) to carry original documents for verification.

Step 5: Biometric Data Collection 

At Passport Seva Kendra, biometric data will be collected and Your application reference number or ARN. After the completion, the Updated Passport will be dispatched to your address.

Fees for Name Change on Passport

The fees for Name Change on a passport depend on validity, number of pages and its type.

1. 36- Page Passport with 10-years validity – Rs. 1,500

2. 60-page passport with 10-years validity – Rs. 2,000

3. Tatkal application – Regular charges + Additional Rs. 2,000
